well, andrew and i have been together for quite some time now, and we've done a lot of things together, but this is something new. i've had a few journals/blogs in my life, and though andrew reads a lot of them, he's never been much of a blog writer on his own. we're getting married in less than a month, and we decided this would be a neat thing to do together. who knows if we'll be very good at keeping this thing up, or if andrew will ever write, but here we go!
tonight andrew and i had date night at our house! we really enjoy good food, so we decided last night while grocery shopping to pick up some fancy-pants food and a movie to have a staying-in date tonight. on the menu was french bread, care of harris teeter's bakery, maytag bleu cheese, large green olives, raspberries, ranier cherries, ile de france brie, and a bottle of marques de riscal rioja wine. i stuffed the green olives with the maytag bleu cheese - maytag is the best, as i learned working at ted's montana grill, because it is made from a single strand of mold (or something disgusting like that), and for stuffed olives, i have yet to find a better cheese.
then i toasted the french bread. normally, i would not toast french bread, as it is supposed to have a very hard, crisp outside with a soft, fluffy inside... but the good ole harris teeter bakery provided us with bread so stale that the dogs had a hard time eating the foot of it, so the toasting made it a lot better. andrew rinsed the cherries and put them in a bowl with the raspberries. if you've never had ranier cherries, they are delicious. they don't look completely ripe, because instead of turning a deep red, they are a yellow color with red splotches, but they have a really great flavor.
after andrew struggled with my wine key and the rioja, i took over and opened the bottle - who knew waitressing would have such a handy home application? the wine was good, but i like the rioja we had at zuzda's better. the flavor of this one had a bit more of a bite, and i like a fuller, more mellow taste in my reds. with everything in bowls, we settled down to the futon where the dogs proceeded to beg without apology. it was really nice. we listened to the birds and other wilderness-y sounds from outside and chatted. my favorite food combination was the brie with raspberries - you should definitely try it sometime.
after half a glass of wine, and enough nibbling to fill us up, we both fell asleep on the futon (actually, i think i fell asleep and andrew somewhat dosed because i was sleeping, but who's counting). i don't know if it was the full belly of rich food, the half glass of wine, or the fact that i've been up late recently, but man i was out. i could have slept for days. when i forced myself to wake up... at like 8 pm... we watched the pursuit of happyness. it was not an enjoyable experience. that is not to say it isn't a good story or a well-made movie, but i am tenderhearted and can't handle hard luck stories well. i cried through half the movie i think. at one point andrew even threatened to turn it off if i didn't cheer up - but i am not a spoiler! so if you want to know more details, you'll have to ask me or watch it yourself.
so i guess that's about it for tonight. we've got so much set for the wedding, we're just about ready to burst from excitement and anticipation! we had our last meeting with the minister until the rehearsal, we finished the dj's 12 page party planning outline, the flowers are ordered and paid up, the rehearsal dinner is planned (though we need to meet with them next week), melissa is coming up to try on her dress, my practice hair appointment is this saturday, tastings are done, and we're just taking care of last-minute details while we wait for the 25th!
maybe this blog will be a good way for us to keep in touch with the rest of the world from our vacuum in boone as the wedding approaches and then as we begin married life! we welcome your comments :-)
