well, today is a very rainy day in the high country. not that that's a bad thing for the area, but more that it's a bad thing for our weekend plans! andrew and i were hoping to get out of boone and go camping for the weekend in order to avoid the "mitford days" in blowing rock, along with the asu home game, and parents' weekend - which all amounts to literally impassible traffic! but the rain has put a quite damper on the situation. though the rain tends to stick to the mountains (apparently) according to our friends in the more easterly parts of the state, i'm assuming these 3 forecasted days of rain will probably trickle into the middle part of the state and drench our camping plans. boo for that.
last night, i'd planned to go night climbing with michelle and her husband, but andrew misunderstood the plans, and took quite a while to get home. rather than going right away, we were both starving and made a small dinner. by the time all this was done, it was too late, i called michelle, but she must have already been climbing cause i got her answering machine. without having lanterns of our own or knowing where they were located in grandmother, we decided to just stay in. i was/am bummed because i'm feeling like a slob and really need to work out. though now with the rain all weekend, that's going to be quite difficult. rather than going out, i went on with the organizing frenzy and cleared out many of the boxes cluttering our hall, and put up a few things on the walls. andrew cleaned the bathroom for me, and i organized two closets, so we're doing better in feeling like we live here. i still have some stuff in the hall and the wedding presents for the common living area, plus the "office" to go through, and our room will be better once we get a dang dresser. i'm beginning to think i may never get to have a dresser again.
on an unrelated note, i saw a youtube movie this morning (which is a rarity for me anyway), called something like "prank that backfires". and it actually made me really sad. basically what happens, is these guys play a trick on their friend by pretending to interview him on camera and then another guy jumps out of the trash can behind him with a mask on. the guy punches his masked friend in the face without even a second going by to know what was happening. for guys in college, i guess this is really funny, but for me, it made me feel sad for this guy. in some of my teachers' education courses we learned how kids in constantly stressful (like high stress, like nightly drive-by shootings, etc) situations actually have their brain chemistry change so that rather than having a normal reaction, the way you or i would, they have a reaction in "crisis mode" where they automatically go into fight or flight because of this hightened stress environment. i know this is what happened to this gentleman because his reaction was so out of the ordinary. i mean you or i would look at this masked friend and jump or scream, but this guy, before i could even register what happened on my screen, had punched his friend straight in the face and was on the other wall with his fists up like he was in a boxing match. he looked rather sheepish when he'd realized what he'd done, but it hurts me to feel like there are people out there whose lives have been so hard as to cause them to have that kind of immediate reflex-type response to (what was intended to be) a silly prank. just food for thought.
