trying to find order in the chaos

i am a person who thrives in a busy, well-organized, well-ordered life. i feel like since i quit teaching... and subsequently andrew and i moved in together, my life has been anything but. i'm trying to reorder things, but it's difficult and stressful, as most life changes are. it is not helped by the fact that, while i love the house we're renting, it has virtually no storage space, and we have a boatload of crap!

ever since the wedding, it's been even worse, with wedding crap all over the place and presents and boxes on the dining room table... i've really felt overwhelmed recently, and it's not just with stuff at home, but stuff at work. i talked to mike about how hard it's been for us up here since andrew's job worked out, and something about talking to him just took that burden off my chest. i had a much better day at work, despite the crazy tech support moron we had to deal with at microsoft. after a pretty good day of work, i came home, played fetch with the dogs, and drank a beer.

i definitely had a positive outlook, but was really tired. then, andrew got home and started cooking dinner. we had teriyaki veggi stirfry with a little chicken mixed (a very little, what was left over from the chicken/pasta stuff i made last night) and parmesean couscous. after eating, we started doing laundry, dishes, and making muffins. well, the muffins started burning because i flaked out, we ran out of dishwasher detergent, so we added dish soap, and suds gushed out over the kitchen, then while unplugging the portable dishwasher we have, i knocked over one of our brand new, wedding present, red wine glasses and it shattered. that was enough to send me back into a funk, until andrew took care of all of the clean-up and came and snuggled me back into a good mood. [This picture, though not taken tonight, shows my feelings about these events.]

though i didn't completely finish unpacking and putting away the contents of every box (that might take me until next year...) i did manage to empty several more boxes and make a bit of a dent before settling down for the night. whew, i hope i can keep this up and even begin decorating the place maybe by this weekend. i think it will help me to feel a lot better about living up here in boone, even if it hasn't gone exactly as we planned it.

on an unrelated note, i really like blogs, both writing and reading them. it helps me feel connected to people, even if they're far away.
